Fresh Bodegas at the Brooklyn Kitchen on Thursday, October 28!
Fresh Bodegas, a GrowNYC/Greenmarket and Red Jacket Orchards joint project to provide fresh, local produce to bodegas in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn is hosting a fundraiser at the Brooklyn Kitchen featuring passed hors d’oeuvres made by local chefs, cheese from Lucy’s Whey, craft ales care of Sixpoint Brewery, produce from 10th Acre Farms, and cocktails made with Red Jacket Orchard fruit. Revelers will have a chance to bid on fabulous auction items from The Brooklyn Kitchen Labs, the Meat Hook, and the Eat Well Guide, and meet Joe Nicholson, the esteemed patriarch and farmer of Red Jacket Orchards. On his first public speaking engagement in Brooklyn, Joe will let the city folks in on the past, present, and future of his family’s upstate farm.
Fresh Bodegas will provide the convenience of shopping at the corner bodega with the variety of local produce available at neighborhood Greenmarkets by making regular deliveries of Red Jacket Orchard’s products and fruit and vegetables from regional farms to bodegas in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, an area of the city with particularly limited access to fresh produce. Help us raise funds to purchase refrigeration units for the bodegas to store the produce in while attending this harvest event full of food, cocktails, chefs, and fun.
