Tomorrow night we’re hosting a special author event at the Labs. Julie Powell will read from her new book, Cleaving, and we’ll be serving Meat Hook sausages and wine. If you only know Powell from her first book, Julie & Julia (and especially if you’ve only seen the movie) you may be in for a major surprise with Cleaving. Powell uses butchering as a vehicle to explore marriage, work and infidelity and her writing is painfully honest and as raw as the meat she cuts. We have it on good authority that Powell (who learned to cut meat at Fleisher’s Meats just like our resident rock star, Tom Mylan) plans to read some racier sections of the book than usual, and the event is free and open to the public, flasks welcome.
