Now that we have so much space to play with at the new Brooklyn Kitchen Labs we’re expanding our classes and events like crazy. One of the new projects we’re most excited about is our Saturday Kids’ Day programming. We’ll have activities, classes and more for kids and parents alike most Saturdays from here on out (we love suggestions so feel free to share yours).

We’re kicking the whole shebang off with a free movie and snacks in our upstairs kitchen laboratory this Saturday, December 5. We’re showing What’s on Your Plate, a film that follows two New York City youngsters through our often confusing food system. The inquisitive kids-eye-view makes the movie appealing to grown-ups and small fry alike and we’ll host a discussion about food and farming after the movie. Brent Young, the least scary of our resident butchers, will take a brief break from his toils at The Meat Hook to help answer questions about where hot dogs really come from.

And to get into the holiday spirit (at least in a butter-sugar-flour kinda way) join us on Saturday the 12 and Saturday the 19 for a drop-in cookie decorating workshop. For $10 you get a baker’s dozen of fresh-baked cookies and all the sparkles, sprinkles and frosting you can handle.
